Economic rights are the exclusive rights of the creator or copyright holder to derive economic benefits from their creation.

As stated in Article 16 of the Copyright Law No. 28 of 2014, economic rights can be transferred or licensed to others to generate economic income.

Article 16, paragraph 2 of the Copyright Law also mentions that copyright can be transferred or assigned, either wholly or partially, through:

a. inheritance;
b. donation;
c. endowment;
d. will;
e. written agreement; or
f. other reasons permitted by law.

If a songwriter has passed away and their works are not yet in the public domain, the economic rights can be inherited by their heirs according to the applicable laws.
